Dear Friends of RMHCAA,
As valued supporters of Ronald McDonald House Charities Ann Arbor, I have some exciting news to share with you. As a result of COVID-19 it was necessary to take a pause in admissions, though we continued to support the existing families at the House as well as families we had to place in hotels. I am pleased to report we have secured appropriate approval from RMHC Global to begin the process of safely admitting families to both the Main House and the House Within the Hospital (The Mott House).
We continue to navigate the COVID-19 situation by following the expertise and guidance from our local public health authorities, Michigan Medicine, and our Board of Directors. They continue to assist us in making informed decisions to ensure we protect the health and safety of the families we serve, the people who deliver our mission, and the communities in which we live.
As of today, we have implemented robust new procedures and policies to start welcoming additional families. We will do so in a safe and controlled manner, admitting a limited number of families over the course of a few weeks and continuing the precautions we’ve already implemented including heightened cleaning and disinfection protocols, social distancing measures, and the use of personal protective equipment. For those families who do not meet the strict health guidelines we are required to uphold by RMHC Global, we will continue to provide hotel accommodations so they can still be close to the hospital and their child.
To support our families, we also need your help. Because we need to protect the families in the House, and limit exposure to visitors, we are still unable to accept donations of items, or allow our volunteer dinner groups to prepare meals. This means we are purchasing food and necessary item for our families; costs which we did not anticipate in our budget.
Here are some ways you can help:
- Patient Family Support: It costs $125 to house a family for one night and we need your support to continue to do so. Unrestricted donations help us to further our mission. You can donate to help provide a night for a family using the link below.
- Meals Matter: A gift of $100 will fund a meal for the families staying at the house. Although we had to temporarily discontinue our dinner group program, we are committed to continue providing a dinner for our families, as their feedback is that is so much more than a meal during such a stressful time. Dinner provide a feeling of comfort and being cared for. We are working with local restaurants and also providing staff prepared, individual meals for each family every day. Donations to help provide a meal can be made using the link below.
Despite the many changes we have embraced, one thing has remained the same — our commitment and ability to deliver our mission thanks to your support. We are so grateful that we have friends and supporters who think about our well-being during times of hardship and hope. I look forward to sharing more information as we welcome additional families to both Houses.
With sincere appreciation,
