Become a volunteer and join a caring community of volunteers who help to transform lives. 

Ronald McDonald House Charities Ann Arbor is an independent, non-profit organization.  We rely on, and are grateful for, the time and effort of volunteers who serve in a variety of capacities and help us deliver our mission of caring for families with a hospitalized child.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities 

Main House Volunteers – We have volunteers during the day and evening who are assigned two-hour shifts, every other week, 7 days of the week.  These shifts occur daily during the hours of 9 am to 8 pm.  Duties include: 

  • Kitchen restocking and emptying dishwashers 
  • Pantry donation processing and shelving of donations 
  • Assembling Welcome Bags and “Our House to Yours” bags 
  • Assembling toiletry kits as well as sorting toiletry donations 
  • Organizing and stocking the Toy Closet 
  • Writing thank you notes and assisting with mailings 

Hospitality Cart Volunteers Help circulate the Hospitality Cart to various patient floors and units at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital providing comfort care items to caregiversVolunteers work with a partner and are assigned two-hour shifts, every other week, Monday through Friday from 3:30-5:30 pm, 5-7 pm, and 6-8 pm.  

Main House & Hospitality Cart Volunteer Requirements 

  • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older 
  • Volunteers need to complete a volunteer application and interview.  A background check is required. 
  • Community volunteers must make a minimum of a one-year commitment; student volunteers must make a two-semester commitment.

Group Volunteer Opportunities 

There are a number of volunteer activities for groups to do on their own: 

  • Host a pantry Wishlist drive  
  • Make fleece no-sew blankets 
  • Host a pop-tab collection 

Groups can also schedule a service day at the House where volunteers can assist with cleaning or organizing tasks and special projects as needed. The date must be mutually agreed upon by RMHCAA and the group.
