The Power of a Little Pampering

At Simply From the Heart, the mission is to uplift, empower, and restore a sense of normalcy for individuals facing critical illness through meaningful self-care and therapeutic pampering. Founded in 2014, the organization believes that even small moments of care such as a manicure, a hairstyle, or time spent together can bring comfort and confidence during difficult times.

That mission came to life during a recent Glam Night hosted by the University of Michigan Chapter of Simply From the Heart.

For one evening, our House was transformed into a space of relaxation, creativity, and joy. Families were invited to step away from the stress of hospital visits and long days and instead enjoy time together at stations featuring hair styling, nail painting, and crafts. It was a chance to pause, connect, and experience a bit of normalcy.

For one sibling staying at the House, Adalyn, the evening was especially meaningful. After asking staff for weeks about having a dance party, Glam Night became the moment her wish finally came true. Music filled the room as she danced surrounded by laughter and support, turning a simple request into a joyful memory.

Volunteers also provided makeup and self-care items for families to take home, a thoughtful reminder that care extends beyond a single evening. These small gifts reflect Simply From the Heart’s mission to remind patients and families of their strength and worth, even in the midst of challenging times.

Events like Glam Night reflect the heart of what we strive to do every day at Ronald McDonald House Ann Arbor: provide a welcoming place where families can rest, recharge, and find moments of comfort, care, and joy together during some of their hardest days.
